Akmal's Convocation .. 23 November 2013.

Kota Kinabalu always gave us a wet reception. It rained when we first came to KK to register Akmal at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) back in 2009 for his degree course in Marine Science. Then, when we came last year with his brothers to pay him a visit, it was raining the whole week we were there. Now, when we came for his graduation, it also rained the whole night. Hmmm ... as Akmal used to say rain was synonym with him. This time around he was honoured with the attendance of his paternal grandmother and one of his aunty and her family (both from the father's side).

Yet, Alhamdulillah, we were interspersed with very hot weather during the day and towards early evening (which was about 5pm) the skies started to darken and released its contents. So, we managed to take our guests and attended the convo with much ease.

So, another son has graduated after 3 years of slogging. Syafiq with his diploma and pursuing his degree. Akmal, with his degree and now attached as a research assistant at UMS. He will pursue his masters in February, insyaAllah. Our task as financial supporter, motivator, counselor, encourager, worrier, mother and father have not ended yet .... :-)))) another 4 years to go before Ikram, Syafiq and Akmal finally completed their academic pursuits. Yet, if Ikram and Syafiq decide to pursue their masters, we will still continue with our multi roles as best as we can. Hmmm ... I will have to reconsider early retirement ....

Akmal, proud, serious and solemn - when he has to - waiting to be called up to be conferred his scroll

The Akmal that we are familiar with - always running around here, there, everywhere, somewhere, anywhere ....

Walking towards the main hall for the ceremony

The usual gifts for convo ... Akmal got his from his aunty

Akmal, still clowning around being told off by one of the ushers to get back in line ...

Graduates marching into the hall and taking their respective places

The Pro-Chancellor, the Chief Minister of Sabah - Dato Musa Aman - who conferred the scrolls, leading his entourage down the satge
The group that most enjoyed the ceremony must be the live music ensemble who played the music. They were the students from the School of Performing Arts and being conducted by their own lecturer. Much to the envy of the others was the fast music they played to accompany their seniors who went up to be conferred.

Alhamdulillah. Thank you, Allah. The boys may not be excellent students or high achievers with a string of awards but I am blessed . They all enjoyed their studies. They balanced study and play. They make full use of their college lives as these are the best years of their lives. I don't ask for much except that they prioritise where their studies are concern and not waste their father's hard-earned money.

They still had a few more years of studying yet they are already soaring high and away .....
