CCCM - Alor Setar - Day 1

From Felcra Changkat Lada, we drove back to Alor Setar with Wah and Kak Haj in tow. It was raining heavily when we reached Ipoh and rained intermittently all the way to Alor Setar. There was a slow crawl from Bukit Tambun until Sg. Dua toll. We finally reached Alor Setar in the rain at almost 9:30pm. Noor decided that we went straight for dinner at D'Perindu for their famous mee udang. Since Wah did not eat prawns, she ordered ikan bakar and otak-otak.

The next morning, it was shining bright and sunny. We took them to the stadium for the famed roti jala with curry chicken. I had teh tarik today which was unusual for me. Guess how we started our holiday? When Noor parked the car at Pusat Dakwah (the mosque in town), we saw the Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah van parking itself infront of the entrance of the masjid. As usual, being "kepohs" we asked what they were doing there. It seemed that they were having a free health screening programme that morning. So, Kak Haj told us to wait and get the check-up done. They were nuts!!!! Not immediately after we had just eaten and me with a mug of teh tarik !!! :-0  So, we dutifully, obediently followed Kak Haj and filled in the forms. Got our weight and height taken. Blood pressure, urine test, glucose level, cholesterol ... and finally consultation with the medical officers. What would you expect if you went for a check-up after such sinful breakfast ?? Of course the readings were ...hua...hua... ;=(   increased ... What a start to the holidays of "Cuti-cuti cari makan" !!! Only Kak Haj got the passing tick from the medical officers. It made me more conscious and aware of what I could eat. Although basically I am consious of my food and do take care of my health, it was still upsetting. Hmmm ... after that we proceeded to Pekan Rabu, the must visit for visitors to Alor Setar.

What's a visit to Kedah without eating the laksa ...  :-)
We wanted to take them to Stargate Arabic Foods for a lunch of nasi Arab but Wah wanted authentic kampoung food - lots of kerabu, keladi asam pedas ... After lunch, solat and rest, we packed and thus, began my two week sojourn of "euti-cuti cari makan" with my sisters. Second stop - Penang.  :-)
